Refugia House

Retreats at Refugia House

REFUGIA - Refuge. Safe haven. Space for life to flourish amidst surrounding chaos.

RETREAT - Taking time away from the normal place and pace for intentional solitude, rest, and deep listening can open us to lost parts of ourselves, can deepen our connection to the sacred, and can offer us deep refreshment.

Retreats at Refugia House are an invitation to slow down, to still, to listen, and to restore.

REFUGIA HOUSE - The retreat space is held in the home of Annette and Jarred Garber, in the studio-loft space addition of an 1830’s farmhouse, which sits on 3 acres of peaceful, tended land in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, original homeland of the Lenni Lenape.

Outdoor Space

Guests are invited to rest and restore, both indoors and out. Across the street flows the Cacoosing Creek, home to many deer, geese, squirrels, songbirds, mature sycamores and young saplings. Behind the house sits a local park and a small walking trail along the creek.

The Wailing Wall, hand-constructed from fieldstone, rests behind the corn crib. Inspired by the Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, it holds many prayers, both written and whispered, and is an invitation for guests to release their sorrows into prayers.

Refugia House is near to many green spaces in which to explore, such as Blue Marsh Lake, the Union Canal Trail, and Nolde Forest. A gorgeous labyrinth for walking and reflecting is less than a 10 minute drive away.
The walkable town of West Reading, a 15 minute drive, boasts many locally-owned restaurants and shops.

Contribution

We see Refugia House and the land where we live as a gift to be tended and shared with others. Embracing the values of a gift economy, we view this gift as something that calls us into a relationship of reciprocity.

In that spirit, we offer Retreats at Refugia House with the invitation to contribute-what-you-will. That contribution could be monetary, but it could be through another means of expressing gratitude and reciprocity for the gift given. We do not wish that funds would

Suggested monetary contribution - $75/night
